Les Vieilles Charrues in the Breton village of Carhaix is the country's largest, grown from a local event into a festival that books international headliners without losing its regional grounding. Hellfest in Clisson is Europe's biggest metal festival, drawing around 180,000 visitors to a site that is a small Loire-country town for the rest of the year.
Around Paris the festivals sit closer to the city. Rock en Seine occupies the Domaine de Saint-Cloud just west of the centre, Solidays is held at the Longchamp racecourse with an explicit charitable purpose, and We Love Green takes place in the Bois de Vincennes with sustainability as a running theme. Further out you'll find Les Eurockéennes on a lake peninsula near Belfort, Main Square on the main square in Arras, and Musilac by the lake in Aix-les-Bains.
